How discount math works
A discount is a percentage taken off the original price: savings = original price × (discount% ÷ 100), and sale price = original price − savings. If you already know the sale price and the discount percentage but need the original price, the formula flips: original price = sale price ÷ (1 − discount% ÷ 100). Use the second tab for that "reverse" case — handy for checking whether a "50% off" sticker actually matches the two prices printed on the tag.

How do I calculate a discount price?
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage (as a decimal) to get your savings, then subtract that from the original price. Example: $80 at 25% off saves $20, for a sale price of $60.
How do I find the original price from a sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount as a decimal). Example: a $60 item at 25% off had an original price of $60 ÷ 0.75 = $80.
Does this calculator include sales tax?
