Roblox Hacked or Banned? 7 Steps to Get Your Account Back

A Roblox account is rarely just a game login. It holds years of purchases, limited items, a friends list, and often a parent's saved payment method. When it is taken over or suddenly banned, the panic is real, and it is usually a child or teen asking a parent for help. This guide covers both situations with the official steps, in the order that works.

Everything below points to Roblox's own support pages. We checked each link and policy against Roblox's published guidance on October 30, 2026. Where Roblox does not publish a number, such as a ban length, we say so instead of guessing.

A hack and a ban can be the same event

A common pattern: an attacker gets in through a fake giveaway page or a reused password, trades away items, posts scam links or breaks chat rules, and the account gets moderated for what the real owner never did. If that is your case, work through the hack steps first, then appeal the moderation action and say clearly that the account was compromised.

Hacked vs. Banned: How to Tell Which One Happened

SignLikely hackedLikely banned
Can you log in?No, password rejected or email changedYes, but you see a moderation notice
Items and RobuxMissing, traded away or spentUsually unchanged
Email from RobloxPassword or email change you did not makeA notice naming a rule and an action
Friends sayYou sent scam links or odd trade offersNothing unusual from your account

If you cannot tell, try the Roblox password reset first. If the reset email never arrives or goes to an address you do not recognize, the account is almost certainly compromised and the email was changed.

How Roblox Accounts Actually Get Hacked

Knowing the entry point changes what you fix afterwards. These are the routes we see most often when we help families recover gaming accounts.

Free Robux and fake item sites. Pages and videos promising free Robux, free limited items or a 'generator' ask you to log in or paste information. Roblox does not give away Robux through third-party sites, and anything that asks for your password, a security code or a browser cookie is stealing it.

Phishing through chat, Discord and game trades. A friend's hijacked account sends a link to a 'trade checker', a 'verification' page or a 'new game' that looks like Roblox. Because the message comes from someone you trust, kids click without thinking.

Password reuse. If the same password protects Roblox and another site that later leaks data, attackers try that email and password pair on Roblox automatically. A unique password per site stops this.

Malicious scripts, executors and cheats. Downloads that promise to cheat in a game often carry malware that steals saved logins and browser sessions. Roblox's hacked-account guidance specifically tells users to remove malware and suspicious browser extensions, which is why the device matters as much as the password.

A compromised email account. If the email linked to Roblox is breached, the attacker simply uses 'forgot password'. Securing the inbox is step one of recovery for this reason.

Not sure how they got in?

Roblox can restore access, but it cannot tell you whether malware on the family computer caused it. Our certified bilingual technician scans the device, removes anything suspicious and sets up 2-step verification correctly for every account.

What a Roblox Ban Actually Means

Roblox describes its consequences as warnings, content removal, timeouts, and account-level restrictions including suspension or termination. It does not publish a standard schedule of ban lengths, so be skeptical of any website that lists fixed durations as official. What decides the outcome is the violation, its severity and your account history, and repeated violations can lead to stronger action.

Read the notice carefully. It tells you which route to use for an appeal, either the Violations and Appeals page or the Support form. That is the only place an appeal counts.

Roblox actionWhat it means for youWhat to do
WarningA rule was flagged; the account keeps workingRead it and change the behaviour; appeal only if it was a mistake
Content removedA specific item, image or text was taken downAppeal the removal if it was wrongly flagged
Timeout / suspensionTemporary loss of accessCheck the notice for duration and appeal options
TerminationThe account is closed for severe or repeated violationsAppeal within 30 days with a clear, honest explanation

Recovery and unban services are scams

No third party can restore a Roblox account, reverse a ban or bring back stolen items. Only Roblox can, through its own support and appeal process. Anyone who asks for your password, a verification code, your .ROBLOSECURITY cookie or a payment to 'fix' the account is the attacker.

Refunds and Unauthorized Charges

If someone spent money from a saved card, PayPal or a linked store account, use Roblox's Unauthorized Charges and Refund Requests process. The order matters: Roblox says to contact them before disputing eligible card, PayPal or Google Play charges, because after a dispute it cannot issue a direct refund through its process.

Some purchases are not Roblox's to refund. Charges made through Apple, Microsoft, PlayStation, Amazon, Meta Quest or Samsung must go through that provider, and charges labelled 'Xsolla*Roblox' go to Xsolla. Check where the money actually left before you pick a route.

If a parent's card was involved, also ask the card issuer to watch for new unauthorized activity, but only after contacting Roblox as described above.

Locked Out Completely: Email Changed, No Access

The hardest version is when the attacker changed the email before you noticed. You will need to prove the account is yours without the normal reset. Gather everything that links you to it:

Send this through the Roblox Support form, from the first-added or billing email when you can. Roblox notes these details help verify ownership but do not guarantee recovery. Be precise and calm, open a single ticket, and avoid sending repeated messages.

7 Steps to Recover a Hacked or Banned Roblox Account

1

Work out whether it is a hack or a moderation action

Look at what actually happened. If your password stopped working, your email changed, or items and Robux vanished, treat it as a hack. If you can still log in but see a notice naming a rule you broke, it is a moderation action and the appeal path applies. Take screenshots of every message before you click anything.

2

Secure the email address linked to the account first

Roblox recovery runs through your email. If an attacker also controls your inbox, they can reset your Roblox password again the moment you fix it. Change the email password, turn on two-step verification there, and check for forwarding rules you did not create.

3

Reset your password and sign out of everything

Use the password reset link from the Roblox login page. Pick a new password that you have never used anywhere else. Roblox's own hacked-account guidance says to remove malware and suspicious browser extensions from your device, so do that before you log back in.

4

Turn on 2-Step Verification

Open Settings, then Security, and enable 2-Step Verification using the official 2-Step Verification guide. Roblox supports authenticator-app codes, security keys and email codes where available, plus saved backup codes. A verified email is required first. Store the backup codes somewhere offline.

5

Contact Roblox Support from the right email

Use the Roblox Support form. Roblox advises contacting them from the first email added to the account or the billing email used for its first payment, when you can. Give your exact username, say the account was compromised, and list what changed and when. Open one ticket and wait.

6

Ask about lost items or Robux within 30 days

The official hacked-account article says to contact Roblox within 30 days of the compromise if you lost items or currency. Be realistic: restoration is not guaranteed, and recovery of lost inventory or its approximate value is offered only in very limited circumstances.

7

Appeal a ban or moderation action, if that is your case

Follow the route shown on your moderation notice, either Violations and Appeals or the Support form. Per Roblox's appeal page, you must submit within 30 days of the action, only the account owner can appeal, and a reviewed moderation cannot be reviewed again. Duplicate appeals are not reviewed, so make the first one count.

Want a person to handle it with you?

If you would rather not do this alone, our technician walks you through the recovery on a remote session and checks the device for the malware that caused it.

Worried malware caused the breach?

Roblox can only restore account access. IT Cares scans the device for keyloggers and cookie stealers, hardens passwords and sets up 2-step verification across every account your family uses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Roblox ban last?

Roblox does not publish a fixed schedule. Its policies describe consequences such as warnings, content removal, timeouts, suspensions and termination, and the action depends on the violation, its severity and your account history. Your moderation notice states the exact action and whether you can appeal.

How do I know if my Roblox account was hacked or banned?

A hack usually means your password or email no longer works, or items, Robux or messages changed without you. A ban means you can reach a moderation notice that names a rule. If you cannot log in at all and there is no notice, start with a password reset and check your email for a Roblox message.

Will Roblox give back my stolen items and Robux?

Not automatically. Roblox says to contact them within 30 days of the compromise, and that restoring lost inventory or its approximate value happens only in very limited circumstances. Keep records of what you owned and the date of the hack.

Can I get a refund for unauthorized Roblox purchases?

Use Roblox's Unauthorized Charges and Refund Requests process and contact Roblox before disputing eligible card, PayPal or Google Play charges. Roblox says it cannot issue a direct refund through its own process after a dispute. Purchases made through some providers, such as Apple, Microsoft, PlayStation, Amazon, Meta Quest or Samsung, are handled by that provider.

Can I appeal a Roblox ban more than once?

No. Roblox says a moderation that has been reviewed cannot be reviewed again and that duplicate appeals are not reviewed. Submit one clear appeal within 30 days of the action.

Do Roblox account recovery services work?

No third party can restore a Roblox account or reverse a ban. Only Roblox can, and only through its own support and appeal process. Anyone asking for your password, a code, a cookie or a payment to recover an account is running a scam.
