Need documented evidence for a warranty or insurance claim on a laptop, PC or Mac? In a remote session we check your device with you and write up what we find: the device details, the checks we ran, the findings with supporting screenshots, and a clear note of what we could and could not determine. The report is yours to send to your insurer, warranty provider or card issuer.
Device failure report: $149.99 per device
One remote session per device, then a dated written report. Book by phone or online. We confirm the delivery time when you book. The report documents facts. It does not guarantee how an insurer or warranty provider will respond.
Who this is for
- A warranty claim was denied and you believe the fault is a defect, for example a denial for "customer-induced damage".
- You are claiming on insurance after a spill, drop or failure and the provider wants a technician's findings.
- Credit card purchase protection or an extended warranty asks for evidence of the failure.
- You want a record of the device's condition before sending it for repair or replacement.
How it works
- Book a session. Call or book online. Tell us the device, the problem and who the report is for.
- Remote check with you. We connect to your device while you are on the line, run the checks that apply and record the results. Your device must power on and connect to the internet.
- Written report. You receive a PDF with the device details, the checks and their results, the evidence, and our findings and opinion, written in plain language.
- You submit it. Send the report to your provider with your receipt, photos and claim form. If the provider has questions, you can give them our contact details so they can verify the report.
What the report includes
- Make, model, serial number, operating system and the date and time of the session.
- Your account of the problem, clearly labelled as your account.
- The checks we ran and how, such as drive health, battery condition and system logs.
- A timeline of crashes and hardware errors from the logs, which helps show when the problem began.
- Screenshots and log excerpts as supporting evidence.
- Our findings, with careful wording such as "consistent with" and "cannot be determined remotely".
- An opinion on whether repair is likely to make sense, and whether your provider may want a formal estimate from an authorised repair centre.
What we will not do
- We will not state that something happened unless we observed it or you reported it, and we label which is which.
- We will not confirm water damage remotely. Corrosion and liquid contact indicators need a hands-on inspection, and we will say so.
- We will not change dates or write a report for a problem we did not find.
- We are not an insurance adjuster or a law firm, and we cannot promise a claim will be approved.
What claims usually need
Most providers ask for proof of purchase, photos, an incident account and a repair estimate or technician report. Our report covers the technical part. For the full checklist and the differences between insurance, manufacturer warranty, extended warranty and card protection, read Laptop Water Damage and Insurance: What Proof You Need.
Available remotely in the US, UK, Canada and Australia
Because the session is remote, you can book from anywhere we serve. See remote support in Canada and remote support in the USA. For a spilled MacBook in Montreal, see our water-damaged MacBook repair page.
Not sure what is wrong? Get a diagnosis first.
Our certified tech can connect remotely, check your software, drivers and backups, and tell you honestly whether the problem needs a hands-on repair.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the device failure report cost?
$149.99 per device for one remote session and a written report. The price covers the session and the report. Confirm the delivery time when you book.
Will the report get my claim approved?
We cannot promise that. Your insurer or warranty provider decides. The report documents what we found so the reviewer has clear technical facts.
Can you prove my laptop has water damage?
Not remotely. A remote check cannot see corrosion or liquid contact indicators. We can document symptoms, logs, drive and battery data and when failures began, and we will state plainly what we cannot confirm.
My laptop will not turn on. Can you still help?
A remote session needs the device to power on and connect. If it does not, we will tell you honestly that a hands-on inspection or an authorised repair estimate is the next step.
Does my provider have to accept an independent report?
No. Some providers only accept estimates from their own authorised repair centres. Check your claim form or ask your provider before you book.
