What is actually happening

This Is a Tech Support Scam — Your Computer Is Probably Fine

Fake virus popups are designed to look terrifying. Loud alarm sounds, flashing red screens, 'Microsoft' logos, warnings that your banking info is being stolen. None of it is real. It is scareware or a browser hijack. The goal is to make you panic and call a fake number where criminals will charge you hundreds of dollars. Do not touch anything on the popup. Call us.

It's a Scam — Not a Real Virus

That popup is not from Microsoft, your internet provider, or any legitimate company. It is a criminal operation.

Do NOT Call That Number

The 1-800 number on your screen connects you to overseas scammers who will charge $200–$500 and sometimes install real malware.

Do NOT Pay Them Anything

If you already called and they're asking for gift cards or wire transfer — stop immediately and call us.

We Remove It Safely in 30 Minutes

Canadian-certified technicians kill the scam popup, scan for any real threats, and make sure your computer is genuinely clean.

Recognize the scam

Does Your Screen Look Like Any of These?

These are all signs of a fake virus popup scam — not a real infection.

How It Works

Simple as a phone call. You stay in control every step of the way.

1Stop — Don't Click Anything on the Popup

Do not click 'Scan Now,' 'Fix Now,' 'Call Now,' or any button. Do not enter any information.

2Don't Call Any Number Shown on Your Screen

That number connects to criminals in another country who will pretend to fix your computer while actually stealing your information.

3Try to Force-Close Your Browser

Windows: Ctrl+Shift+Esc → Task Manager → End your browser. Mac: Cmd+Opt+Esc → Force Quit. Do not reboot yet.

4Call IT Cares at 1 (888) 711-9428

We answer in under 60 seconds. Tell us what you see. We start removal within minutes.

5We Clean It Remotely in About 30 Minutes

Kill the scam popup, remove browser hijack, scan for real malware, check passwords, show you how to recognize this next time.

Common Questions

Is that popup a real virus or a fake scam?
In almost all cases a fake scam — scareware or browser attack. Your files are not encrypted, your banking is not being stolen. Microsoft did not send that warning. Call us to confirm.
What if I already called the number on the popup?
Stop the call immediately. Hang up, then call us at 1 (888) 711-9428. Even if you only spoke briefly, we check whether they installed any remote access software.
I already gave them remote access to my computer. What do I do?
Call us right now. Urgent. We do an emergency audit: kill their remote session if still active, scan for backdoor tools, change passwords on a safe device, assess what was accessed.
I gave them my credit card number. What should I do?
Call your bank immediately. Most Canadian banks reverse the charge when reported quickly. Also report to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. Then call us to clean your computer.
Will this happen again after you remove it?
Not if we do the full cleanup. We remove scareware, reset browser settings, block malicious domains, install or configure legitimate security software.
How do I recognize a fake popup vs. a real Windows warning?
Real Windows warnings never include a phone number to call. Real Microsoft alerts don't play audio alarms or lock your browser. Any popup with a phone number is 100% a scam.
My browser is completely locked. What do I do?
Windows: Ctrl+Shift+Esc → Task Manager → End your browser. Mac: Cmd+Option+Esc → Force Quit. If you cannot do these steps, call us.
How much does it cost?
$59 CAD flat — killing the popup, browser cleanup, malware scan, security review, prevention advice.
Is it safe to use my computer while waiting for help?
Do not use it for banking or anything involving passwords until confirmed clean. Disconnect Wi-Fi temporarily if you can.
Can you help me even if I am not good with computers?
Especially if you are not good with computers. Our senior clients are some of our most valued customers.
Do you work on Mac computers too?
Yes. Fake popup scams target Mac users too — especially browser-based versions that lock Safari or Chrome.
What hours are you available?
7 days a week, 9am to 9pm ET. Outside those hours leave voicemail — we call back within the hour.
