Here's the honest answer: IT Cares does not run an in-house ISO Class 5 cleanroom. Most recovery — logical, firmware, SSD, iPhone, USB — never needs one and is done at our Montreal workshop. The rare severe physical cases go to a certified partner cleanroom lab, and we manage the whole thing for you. No markup. No pretending. No-data-no-pay guarantee either way.
Logical, firmware, PCB, SSD, USB, iPhone/Android — Montreal, fast turnaround.
ISO Class 5 cleanroom for severe physical cases — we manage it, no markup.
No, IT Cares does not have an on-site ISO Class 5 cleanroom. We're upfront about it: logical recovery, firmware/PCB repair, SSD/NVMe/USB/SD card recovery, iPhone/Android chip-level work, and RAID reconstruction are all done at our Montreal workshop — none of that requires opening a drive's sealed enclosure, so no cleanroom is needed. Only severe physical cases — head crashes, scored platters, seized actuators — require physically opening the drive, and for those we route the case to a certified partner cleanroom lab in Montreal, manage it end-to-end, and charge no markup. Call 1 (888) 711-9428 for an honest $49 diagnostic before anything else.
The physics behind why some recoveries need one — and most don't
An ISO Class 5 cleanroom is a controlled environment defined by the ISO 14644-1 standard: fewer than 3,520 particles of 0.5 microns or larger per cubic meter of air — thousands of times cleaner than a typical office or workshop. That level of control exists for one physical reason: inside a hard drive, the read/write head flies only a few nanometers above the spinning magnetic platter. A single dust particle, a human hair fragment, or even a fingerprint's worth of skin oil is enormous by comparison — large enough to cause the head to crash into the platter surface, scoring it and destroying the data on it permanently.
But that risk only exists the moment someone physically opens the drive's sealed enclosure. If the recovery never requires breaking that seal — because the failure is logical (deleted files, corrupted partition, formatting), firmware-level, PCB-related, or contained entirely within an SSD's NAND controller — a cleanroom adds no benefit at all. This is exactly why we separate our process into two honest tracks instead of claiming a single blanket "cleanroom" capability we'd have to fake for 95% of the cases that don't actually need one.
Every case starts the same way. Where it ends up depends on what your drive actually needs.
Every case — no exceptions — starts with a $49 assessment at our Montreal workshop. We classify the failure as logical or physical before quoting anything, so you know which track applies to you.
Logical recovery, firmware repair, PCB replacement, SSD/NVMe/USB/SD recovery, iPhone/Android chip-level, RAID reconstruction. Done entirely at our workshop — faster, and no cleanroom is required because the drive's seal is never broken.
Multi-platter head crashes, platter scoring, seized actuator arms, full head-stack swaps. We coordinate the transfer to our certified Montreal-based partner ISO Class 5 cleanroom lab and stay your single point of contact throughout.
Whichever track applies, you get a firm written quote before any recovery work begins, and the no-data-no-pay guarantee applies at every tier. If nothing is recovered, you owe only the $49 diagnostic.
Plenty of data recovery companies put the word "cleanroom" on their homepage without saying whether it's actually on their premises, what class it's rated, or whether it exists at all. We understand the temptation — it sounds impressive. But it's also exactly the kind of claim that matters when your data is on the line.
We'd rather tell you precisely which part of your case happens at our Montreal workshop and which part requires our certified external partner. It's a more honest answer, and it's a better one for you: you know who is handling your drive at every stage, you know there's no markup on the partner-lab tier, and you know the same no-data-no-pay guarantee protects you either way.
Being wrong about a claimed capability during platter-level recovery can cost you your data permanently. Transparency isn't a marketing checkbox for us — it's the actual differentiator.
Every storage failure type, handled honestly by the track it actually needs
Clicking drives, PCB failure, firmware corruption, stuck heads — assessed first, routed to the partner lab only if the enclosure must be opened.
Controller failure, firmware lock, power-loss corruption. No cleanroom involved — SSDs have no spinning platters or flying heads.
RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 from Synology, QNAP, Buffalo, Drobo. Stripe reconstruction done entirely in-house.
Broken screen, logic board damage, water damage. Chip-level diagnosis and extraction at our Montreal workshop.
Accidental deletion, formatting, corrupted MBR/GPT partitions on a mechanically healthy drive. Fastest, most affordable tier.
Head crashes, scored platters, seized actuators. Routed to our certified Montreal-based ISO Class 5 partner lab, managed end-to-end by us.
Honesty about capabilities, backed by a real guarantee
We don't claim an on-site ISO Class 5 cleanroom we don't have. You always know exactly which part of the job happens in Montreal and which part goes to our partner lab.
When your case needs the certified cleanroom lab, we pass along the applicable tier price with no hidden fee for coordinating the transfer.
One flat fee tells you exactly which track your case falls into — before you commit to anything else.
If nothing is recovered — in-house or via the partner lab — you only pay the $49 diagnostic. Zero risk on either track.
